Clearing Cache and cookies QuickBooks Online
Clearing the cache and cookies and calculating Employee costs are two things that do not go together. But they are two links I found this weekend that you may want to save to your bookmarks. Clearing the cache and checking your browser health is probably the number one fix I offer to the people asking questions on the Intuit Community forum.
Clearing the cache and cookies: What is cache?
Here is a great description of cache, from a website called Techo Bezz. When you visit a place for the first time, your brain stores the route in your mind. The next time you have to get to the same place, it is easier and quicker. This is somewhat the same way in which cached data behaves. When a device visits a website or uses an app, certain data is stored in the form of cache in the device memory. Next time you go to that site, it is easier to access it because of the cached data. Cached data was stored when the website was visited the first time. Cache data speeds up the page loading.
So, if cached data makes the website load faster, why clear it?
We clear cache data because it can become corrupted. It will resolve a number of problems "when weird things happen" in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Things like seeing a screen that says "Json..." or "we are experiencing a problem", etc. First do the browser health on this site (shown in the video). And I love this site for clearing cache. It provides the exact steps for the most popular browsers.
Clearing the cache and cookies: what are cookies?
Cookies are small files which are stored on a user's computer. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website, and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer. They are used by the website's you log into, even just to view.
A funny cookie story....
One time my husband googled "spanx" because he heard about this prosperous company and had no clue what spanx was. You guessed it, the cookies were planted. Every time he browsed the web, all of the ads on the side of the screen were for spanx. I walked into his office to ask him a question, which immediately turned into, "what did you click to have all of those spanx adds?" Funny story, but I had to show him how to stop them.
Last good website link: Calculator for employee cost
Are you are planning on hiring this year? Is business is booming and you want to expand? Calculating employee cost is an important part of deciding if you are to hire new staff and will it fit into your budget. The Employee Cost Calculator is a wonderful tool for figuring the actual cost of hiring someone new. If company expansion is on your horizon for 2018, I highly recommend using this calculator to determine if hiring a new employee fits into your budget.
These are just a few of the links to some websites that are useful in working in QBO. I mentioned the double revenue blog post and you can find that here. It is a really common error in QuickBooks Online because of the bank feeds. I highly recommend bookmarking the browser health page to refer back to when things in QuickBooks Online just do not work like they should.
