Downloading Old Quickbooks Desktop program

downloading old quickbooks desktop

Is it possible to download an old Quickbooks Desktop program? Yes it is!

So I do live in Florida.  I have heard most of the jokes about it being "God's waiting room".  True, the average population is more in line with retirement age.  I sometimes have to meet with my customers in person.  They may not be as "tech-savy".  And I have met so many wonderful people over the years.   Yes, they may still use QuickBooks 2012 or older.  Some still have the same old computer with the same old operating system.

So that brings me to the story of a client I had that was in his eighties.  He is a wonderful man whose wife had passed away.  His computer crashed and he found someone who rebuilt it for him.  However, he lost his programs.  He had backed up his QuickBooks file (Yippee!).  He called Intuit to get a new CD to download his QB Desktop 2011 program and Intuit Support convinced him to move to QuickBooks Online (QBO).  He contacted me to help him learn QBO.

When I met him, I told him since he had a backup of the data file, I could put the old QuickBooks Desktop program back on his computer.   He was thrilled!  He had the disc jacket that the original QuickBooks CD came in, so he had his product and subscription numbers.  (If you don't have them, you can see this other post and look them up here).

So here is a link to a help page with Intuit that has all of the older programs.  You can click to re-download your program.

Now, this is not to say I recommend staying with desktop Quickbooks.  I prefer QBO over the desktop version for my customers.  It is so easy to use, so portable, etc.  But there are reasons for some people that it just does not work.  And my 80+ year old client was one of them.  There are clients that desktop is still a better choice. But that is less and less the case because of the ever-evolving QBO.  They keep making it better and better.

If you are unsure about moving to QBO, please reach out to me and we can go over your situation to see if it is a good fit.  You can reach me via my contact page or through my Facebook page.
